Great wine is made in the vineyard

Firstly, we’ll set off into the island’s thickly forested interior, and then towards the wine-growing villages of Čara and Smokvica. Soon after the road starts to swoop down into a valley you’ll see the glorious vineyards of Pošip. Until just recently, this grape variety was grown nowhere else in the world, except here, in this flat landscape, a stone’s throw away from the indented southern coast of the island. Back in 1967, Pošip wine was the first white wine in Croatia with a denomination of origin. In other words, this part of the island is the cradle of Pošip, and also a place where nature performs its magic on the Pošip grape to create the best results.

It is said that it takes a generation of winemaking to learn how best to make wine from a specific location. Here we are, in the birthplace of Pošip, and now we will meet local winemakers and ask them their secrets of the winemaking process. It goes without saying that we’ll taste their different great wines, and learn about the history of Pošip wine.
